That great ship, The Church

Artist: Edward Burne-Jones

I think this is very, very important. And I think many (if not most) of us in the Church tend to forget the message given here:

If the highest aim of a captain were to preserve his ship, he would keep it in port forever.

-- Thomas Aquinas, Priest, Friar and Theologian

  1. Lovely pic. Makes me think of the Dawn Treader.

  2. It DOES look like the Dawn Treader, doesn't it? I didn't think of that consciously but it may well have been part of what attracted me to that painting in the first place.

  3. I love that book so much. It is one of my favourite books. The drawings in the Narnia books were so fabulous. She died recently, that artist. I wish someone would put on an exhibition of her work - not just hers but other children's book illustrators - the guy who did Wind in the Willows, for instance, and the original Alice in Wonderland pics. I would go like a shot.
